Hidden Dangers Of Nut Allergies

All of us have eaten something that didn't agree with us but there may be times whenever something more is lurking below the surface. This is the case whenever it comes to nut allergies and you might be surprised to learn that what is a simple reaction to eating the wrong kind of food one day may land you in the hospital, or worse, tomorrow. Let's take a little look at nut allergies, where they come from and why there may be some hidden dangers that are involved for those that have to deal with this problem.

All food has protein and there are specific proteins that are existing in nuts which may cause a problem for those of us with allergies. It is not really the nuts itself but it is the fact that our body reacts to them as if they were a toxin that was invading it. They produce antibodies which attack the protein and keep our body safe from it, as if it needed to be kept safe from it. Unfortunately, our body releases a large amount of histamines and this is what makes us feel as if we are having an allergic reaction. It is not the peanuts or tree nuts that are causing us to feel this way, it is our own body and its inability to recognize that nuts are not the enemy.

This can cause a lot of different problems for us and some of the more common reactions that we may experience as a result of nut allergies include respiratory problems, skin conditions and gastrointestinal distress. Most of these are relatively easy to put up with but unfortunately, it can also cause some problems that are potentially deadly. There is a condition that is known as anaphylaxis which comes as a result of severe allergic reactions, such as this. If it is not treated, it can easily kill us so we need to be alert to the fact that nut allergies are certainly not something that we should fool with.

This type of a condition can occur without warning and even if we have never had a problem as severe as this in the past. If we recognize the fact that we are having a problem with nut allergies, it is imperative that we avoid nuts at all cost so that we do not end up having a reaction which we cannot overcome.
