Nut Allergies

There is an old saying that goes, to be forewarned is to be forearmed.  This is a very true statement and it is important for us to have knowledge about a subject, especially if it is something that potentially can hurt us.  A good example of this is if we have nut allergies.  These are not simply a mild allergy that we tend to put up with on a regular basis.  A nut allergy can easily turn deadly, even if an individual has never felt more than a mild allergy to it before.

Having knowledge ahead of time about nut allergies is your first and best line of defense whenever it comes to overcoming this problem.  Of course, it is always going to be an ongoing process and you will never stop learning.  All of that knowledge is going to come in handy, however, because it will help you to lead a relatively normal life, even though you're living in a world that is simply full of a product that could kill you.  Here are several different things that you should know and can build a foundation for your knowledge about nut allergies.

First of all, there are nuts everywhere in the world around us, and I'm not talking about crazy people.  It exists in almost every food that we eat in some form or another so it is imperative that you learn how to read product labels and to know where these nuts exist so that you can overcome the problem, perhaps before it starts.  You also need to be very cautious about any cross contamination that may have occurred as a result of your food being prepared in an area where other food that contains nuts is also prepared.  These can be rather subtle so make sure that you are looking at all possible directions before you deem something to be safe.

You should also make sure that you are prepared in case you happen to ingest some nuts accidentally.  There are two things that you should always have with you for just such an emergency.  The first of these is an antihistamine, one that is generally available in an over-the-counter form.  The second is a prescription for a epinephrine injection, just in case you happen to have a problem that is so severe that you are unable to overcome it.  Although strict avoidance is the best way for you to deal with the problem, being prepared can certainly save your life if an accident should happen to occur.
